Kinja'd!!!2 Kinja'd!!! 32

What the hell is it, why is it here, and why should I care?

I notice that these comics get posted every day (and today, the straw that broke the camel's back, "Reposted for the early-afternoon crowd" or whatever the fuck).

They don't seem to be about cars (fact?). They also don't seem to be funny (definately my opinion).

Why do they get posted here?

EDIT: Ok, apparently a lot of you read them. I don't know why you can't go read them on Reddit, which appears to be where they originate from...but fuck it. It's not that annoying...But is it REALLY necessary to repost them? If somebody wants to read them, they aren't really that hard to find IMO.

Anyway, I'll leave it alone.

Because they're very funny.

Because we as gearheads have learned to appreciate other nationalities of cars, and therefore must learn the history of said nations in a funny (opinion) fashion

Or something like that

They're funny because they joke about different stereotypes and history in an innocent way. Since oppo is quite international, polandball has a rather big audience.

Also, if you don't like a daily post, don't click on it.

I've always been lukewarm on them, but they do have some historical background, and you're right about countries' histories playing a part in explaining why their cars are the way they are.

For instance, Germany was many small states that were put together through planning and, eventually, just sheer willpower.

Italy was a bunch of small states that were kind of assembled, and came together because there was nowhere else to go.

Britain just kind of fell apart over time, and has considerable gaps in territory at the moment.

The USA is powerful, but doesn't seem to have direction as of late.

The French are on break.

"definately my opinion"

Kinja'd!!!

;)

Some of them are funny, some of them are even disturbingly accurate. The heck, I even used some of them in my classes. You are aware that this is Jalop's off-topic forum? It's O.K. to post something not car related every once in a while. To be honest, I like the Daily Polandballs more than shitty theme days about a colour or some wheels.

They are not my thing either, but some folks like them and Oppo is technically an "off-topic" blog so really anything goes. Most of the time we are car related, sometimes not. But my approach to stuff that I'm not into is just to ignore it and move on.

Because Oppo is about more than cars. I would venture to guess that nobody reads everything. Feel free to skip what doesn't interest you. You won't hurt anybody's feelings.

Right, yes, I know. And I knew I was gonna be that guy when I posted this. Of course I don't have to click on them.

I guess I'm trying to gauge the amount of people that read the things. If it's a ton, fine, great whatever. If not...Well, go ahead and keep posting them (but there's no need to repost them. The people that care that much can find them).

If it is as you say, and a lot of people read them, then I retract my complaint I guess...I just don't find them particularly amusing.

I'm glad to hear you use them for classes. Do you use them as your class openers projected or on an overhead? I can imagine they are great precursors to a lesson.

Car culture is nationalistic in many ways; countries of origin, home nations of drivers, Grand Prix, etc. As such similar nationalistic humor is well received here.

WHAT?!?! THAT'S AN OPTION?!?!?!?

You've opened my eyes to a whole new world of ignoring segments of the internet!

Ok, yes, sarcasm aside, I know I can skip them. I really wasn't sure if many people read them, and this post was somewhat meant to gauge that. It seems that there are. I'll leave it alone.

I read them on occasion, and there have been a few that are funny. I'm glad you caught the sarcasm, and didn't take my comment as a personal attack.

Yeah. Your comment would have caused a crosspost to Jez, where the warriors of Truth on the Internet sit and wait for somebody to toe the line, so they can all pile on and browbeat the poor sonofabitch until he throws his computer out a window.

Been there a couple times :)
